Online Writing/Creativity Workshop - Session 1

Session 1

  • We just had our first session (making connection between our inner selves and the exterior surroundings). Why?

  • Because when we feel safe, present, and grounded can we deeply access our creativity.

  • We seek to be aware of our sensations before thought. In doing so, we can cultivate self-trust to feed our creativity, synchronizing our internal and external awareness.

Optional Homework (Session 1 Part 1)

  • Visualize or paint/draw, dance, walk, journal, write, do nothingfor 3-15 minutes at least once before we meet again (paying attention to sensations, thoughts as though they were passing clouds).

Optional Homework (Session 1 Part 2)

  • See if you remember a dream. Write some notes down or any drawings/pictures/colours upon awakening right away on your electronic device or by hand (try to do nothing else before so you can remember it vividly).

  • If you don't remember it, don't worry, just be aware or anything at all, any thoughts that may arise.

Optional Homework (Session 1 Part 3)

  • Each day whenever you are going to do a task, time yourself for 25 minutes (this time period is known to some as the Pomodoro method - named after the old style kitchen time that looked like a tomato (Pomodoro=Italian).

  • It follows research that shows that the brain can only function intently for 25 minutes at a time. Then, it needs a 3-5 minute break doing something else (it will still be ‘working’ on the previous task in the background).

  • For these 3-5 mins, see if you can do nothing, just bring your breath into your belly as we did in the first session, observe your thoughts as though you are simply watching them with curiosity and gentleness, as passing clouds.

Optional Homework (Session 1 Part 4)

Feel free to bring any impressions/drawings (maybe one) that may occur to the next session, how any thoughts might map onto the body (which parts of the body, which sensations may be noticeable, which colours).
